About Dholak

Dholak, which is also sometimes referred to as Dholki, is a popular folk drum of northern India. It's a barrel shaped music drum with a simple membrane on the right hand side and a special membrarne on the left hand, with a special application of "masala" on the inner surface of the membrane. Dholak masala is a mixture of tar, clay and sand which helps in lowering the pitch and provides a well defined tone to it.
